Mini Slug is a run & gun platformer inspired by the classic Metal Slug game. Control a soldier, shoot enemies, jump over obstacles, and defeat the boss at the end of each level!
🎮 How to Play
- Use ← → or A/D to move left and right
- Press ↑ or W to jump
- Press SPACE or F to shoot
- On mobile, use directional buttons, ⬆ to jump, and 🔥 to shoot
- Destroy all enemies along the level
- Defeat the boss at the end to advance to the next level
- You have 3 lives — avoid enemy bullets and don't fall into pits!
💡 Tips & Tricks
- Don't rush forward — observe enemy positions before moving
- Use high platforms to your advantage — shooting enemies from above is safer
- Watch out for pits — falling costs you a life
- When fighting the boss, keep moving and shooting — don't stay in one spot
- The boss fires 2 bullets at once — jump to dodge the lower bullet
- After getting hit, use the invincibility window to reposition
- Regular enemies are worth 10 points, bosses are worth 100 points
💡 Pro tip: When fighting the boss, stand on the nearest platform and shoot while jumping. This makes you harder to hit since boss bullets travel horizontally.
📜 About the Run & Gun Genre
The run & gun genre was popularized by games like Contra (1987) and Metal Slug (1996). The concept is simple: move forward, shoot everything in your way, and survive. Metal Slug in particular is famous for its detailed sprite animation and signature humor.
Mini Slug captures the essence of this genre — side-scrolling action with platforming and shooting — in a lightweight format playable directly in the browser. Despite its simplicity, core mechanics like jump timing and position management remain key to achieving high scores.
