๐Ÿ“œ History & Benefits of the Kraepelin Test

The Kraepelin test was developed by Emil Kraepelin (1856-1926), a German psychiatrist considered the father of modern psychiatry. Kraepelin originally designed this simple addition test in the late 19th century to measure the effects of fatigue, alcohol, and mental disorders on cognitive ability.

The version used in employment psychological tests in Indonesia was adapted by Prof. Sumadi Suryabrata, a prominent Indonesian psychologist. This adaptation tailored the test format to the needs of employee selection in Indonesia, making it one of the most commonly used psychological tests in recruitment processes across the country.

The Kraepelin test measures several important psychological aspects: work speed, accuracy, endurance, and consistency. Companies use this test to assess how job candidates perform under time pressure.

Beyond the context of psychological testing, Kraepelin practice is also beneficial for improving mental arithmetic, concentration, and focus endurance. Many students and professionals practice Kraepelin regularly to prepare for employment tests or simply to sharpen their mental acuity. Practicing 10-15 minutes daily for 2 weeks is usually enough to see significant improvement.
