Space Invaders is a legendary arcade game first released in 1978. Control your fighter ship, shoot down aliens descending from above, and survive as long as you can!
🎮 How to Play
- Use arrow keys ← → or A/D to move your ship
- Press SPACE to shoot (max 3 bullets on screen)
- On mobile, use directional buttons and the 🔥 button to shoot
- Destroy all aliens to advance to the next wave
- You have 3 lives — don't get hit by enemy fire!
- Top row aliens are worth more (40 pts) than bottom row (10 pts)
💡 Tips & Tricks
- Prioritize shooting aliens on the edges to narrow their formation and slow their descent
- Don't stay in one spot — keep moving to dodge enemy bullets
- Conserve your shots — max 3 on screen, so aim carefully
- Watch the enemy firing pattern — only the bottom alien in each column shoots
- The fewer aliens remaining, the faster they move in the next wave
- Focus on clearing one side first to give yourself more room to maneuver
💡 Pro tip: Shoot from the edges inward. This slows the aliens' descent because they take longer to reach the screen edge and drop down.
📜 History of Space Invaders
Space Invaders was created by Tomohiro Nishikado and released by Taito in 1978. The game became a global phenomenon and is considered one of the most influential games of all time. In Japan, the game was so popular that it caused a shortage of 100-yen coins!
Space Invaders introduced many concepts that became standards in modern gaming: enemy wave progression, high score tracking, and increasing difficulty. The game was also one of the main drivers of the arcade boom in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
The influence of Space Invaders is still felt today. Its alien designs have become pop culture icons, and the "shoot from below, enemies descend from above" mechanic is still used in many modern shooter games.
