☄️ Asteroid Game Tips & Strategy
Wuidi Naratama · Tips & Tricks
Asteroid is a classic space shooter where you pilot a ship through an asteroid field. Rotate, thrust, and shoot to survive as waves of asteroids get increasingly dangerous.
🎮 How to Play
- Left/Right arrows to rotate your ship
- Up arrow to thrust forward
- SPACE or F to shoot
- Destroy asteroids — large ones split into medium, medium into small
- Your ship wraps around screen edges
- Scoring: Large = 20 pts, Medium = 50 pts, Small = 100 pts
- Clear all asteroids to advance to the next wave with more asteroids
💡 Tips & Tricks
- Stay near the center — it gives you the most room to maneuver
- Don't thrust constantly — use short bursts to maintain control
- Shoot large asteroids from a distance — they split into faster pieces
- Small asteroids are worth the most points but are hardest to hit
- Use the screen wrap to your advantage — escape through one edge and appear on the other
- After respawning you have brief invincibility — use it to reposition safely
💡 Pro tip: Focus on one asteroid at a time. Splitting too many large asteroids at once fills the screen with fast-moving debris that's hard to dodge.
📜 History of Asteroids
Asteroids was created by Lyle Rains and Ed Logg and released by Atari in 1979. It became one of the most popular and influential arcade games of the golden age. The game used vector graphics, giving it a distinctive sharp visual style.
Asteroids was the first game to track high scores with player initials, creating the competitive arcade culture of trying to get your name on the leaderboard. At its peak, Asteroids machines were earning more money than any other arcade game.
The physics-based movement system — where the ship has momentum and inertia — was revolutionary for its time and influenced countless space games that followed. The concept of objects wrapping around screen edges also became a staple of game design.
